January 3, 2025

On 1/3/25 @1137 hrs. the pre-alert was sounded for a house fire in Box 1-6 @ 1936 Biglerville Road (Cumberland Twp.). Shortly after dispatch Deputy Chief 5 (Gilbert) radioed Communications of a large black column of smoke in the area of the dispatched location and requested the WFD. Engine 1-1 w/6 responded within a few short minutes of dispatch and arrived to find a well-advanced fire in a single-story single-family dwelling w/2 attached garages on the Delta side of the home, not yet involved and all occupants out of the home and accounted for. An initial 1 3/4" attack line was stretched through the large uninvolved garage that contained a large motor home and advanced into a small portion of the home that was not yet involved and began an offensive attack. Truck 1 arrived as the 1st due Truck Co. and assisted with initial exterior fire attack as mutual companies arrived and placed additional lines in service to include a 2 1/2" handline that was stretched to Side C where they began to knock down the bulk of the fire in the living area and assisting the first line with stopping the quickly advancing fire from reaching the 2 attached garages. Due to this being a non-hydrant area, a rural water supply operation was established on Biglerville Rd, with water being shuttled in via Tankers from the Misty Ridge Development. All companies operated for several hours performing overhaul after initial suppression efforts to ensure all fire was extinguished. No injuries to any FD personnel or occupants of the home and several animals were located and reunited with their owners. The cause and origin of the fire remains under investigation by the PSP Fire Marshall.
