| On September 1, 2026, at approximately 1900 hours, the Gettysburg Fire Department and mutual aid companies were dispatched to North Avenue in Cumberland Township for a reported vehicle into a structure. Initial reports indicated there were no injuries.
While responding, Deputy Chief 1 was advised by Adams County Department of Emergency Services (ACDES) that a vehicle had driven through the garage of a residence. The caller reported no injuries but requested the fire department respond to check the property for hazards.
Upon arrival, Deputy Chief 1 found a Jeep Cherokee completely through the home's garage and partially protruding from the rear of the structure. The vehicle's operator had self-extricated prior to the fire department's arrival and denied any injuries.
Truck 1 and Rescue 6 (Biglerville FD) arrived and were assigned to evaluate the structural stability of the residence, identify any immediate hazards, secure the vehicle, and check for fluid leaks or other concerns.
No immediate life-safety hazards were identified. However, due to the significant damage to the residence, utility companies and other appropriate agencies were notified. 1-800-BOARDUP was also requested to assist with stabilizing and shoring the damaged portion of the home so the vehicle could be safely removed.
Deputy Chief 1 established North Avenue Command and coordinated operations throughout the incident.
